The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) received a $5.8 million Green Job (PDF document, 453KB, download Adobe Acrobat for free) Training grant from the U. S. Department of Labor. The purpose of the grant is to train workers in the skills required in emerging industries including energy efficiency and renewable energy. The Maryland Energy Sector Partnership (MESP), led by the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board (GWIB), is a comprehensive and representative partnership of the DLLR/GWIB, local WIBs, State Cabinet officials, energy efficiency and renewable energy business and industry leaders, labor organizations, education institutions, and community organizations. The MESP monitors four regional consortia that will create an integrated system of education, training, and supportive services that promotes skill attainment and career pathway development for more than 2,000 Marylanders for green jobs in manufacturing, construction, environment technology and solar energy.
Priority populations to be served include dislocated workers, new entrants, incumbent workers in need of updated skills, veterans, or past or present member of the Armed Forces reserve components; unemployed individuals, at risk youth, low-income individuals seeking pathways out of poverty, and ex-offenders. |
