The Retail Trade Industry Initiative steering committee began in August 2006. The sector includes retail establishments in Food and Beverage, General Merchandise, Motor Vehicles and Parts, Clothing and Accessories, Building Materials, Garden Equipment, Health and Personal Care, Sporting Goods, Hobby, Book and Music, Furniture and Home Furnishings, and Electronics and Appliances.

Donna M. Gwin, Human Resources Director, Eastern/Genuardi's Division of Safeway Inc.
Donna M. Gwin has been in her current position with Safeway since 2001. Safeway's Eastern/Genuardi's Division has a total of 180 stores and nearly 17,000 employees, Ms. Gwin's department consists of 40 human resources professionals who play an integral role in employee development, organizational development, and recruiting and retention. As a result of her work she has assisted in securing Safeway a place on the Forbes America's Best Companies for Minorities list, debuting in 2003 and on the list again in 2004, and 2005. Before joining Safeway, Ms. Gwin worked as a human resources and labor relations professional for a number of the nation's leading retailers including Home Depot, Target, and John Wanamaker/Woodward & Lothrop department stores. She received her B.S. from Temple University and is certified as a senior professional member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
